Self-testing for albumin in urine
Albumin is the most abundant protein in plasma, produced mainly in the liver and accounts for up to two-thirds of the total plasma protein concentration, which ranges from 6-8%. Albumin plays an essential role in maintaining the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood, making it responsible for regulating the exchange of water between plasma and interstitial fluid (the space between cells).
The presence of albumin in the urine (albuminuria) indicates abnormal kidney function and may be related to kidney disease or heart failure.
This test is recommended for people who suspect kidney issues or have special conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or pregnancy.
